New Environmental Sampling Capabilities
At Butler Partners, our drillers have recently acquired a 2-inch push tube system to support our environmental site investigations. Having this equipment available means we can mobilise efficiently and respond quickly to project requirements, while maintaining strong quality control during field investigations.
While push tube sampling is commonly used in environmental investigations, core diameter can significantly influence the quality and representativeness of samples collected.
The use of a larger 2-inch push tube provides several advantages:
• Greater sample volume, allowing a broader suite of laboratory analyses.
• Improved recovery in heterogeneous soils, particularly in fill materials and disturbed ground.
• Clearer visual identification of stratigraphy and potential contamination indicators.
• Reduced likelihood of sample disturbance during recovery.
On many urban and industrial sites, subsurface conditions can include mixed fill, construction debris, and variable contamination distribution. Larger diameter cores help ensure the samples collected better represent actual ground conditions.
